Limestone, occurring in nature is basically calcium carbonate. Though by itself it’s soft, continued prolonged exposure to excessive heat makes it hard and eventually, limestone transforms to marble, which is among the hardest known materials.
Because limestone tiles have a soft texture, they demand high level of maintenance. They tend to get scratched and attract stains, thus affecting their durability. Sometimes the tiles lose their luster. The color begins to fade away and they start giving a very dull look. The streaky appearance should be carefully dealt with to prolong the life of stone.
This is caused by improper methods adopted for cleaning the surface. At times you might use very strong detergent or a chemical for cleaning the floor. Sometimes, the floor may not be adequately rinsed after having cleaned it. Chemicals and dust that get deposited on the surface of the tile cause streaks thereon.

Limestone has the same physical properties as glass. If some water falls on any glass surface and is not wiped off, it causes some stains to remain on the surface. Likewise, any water left on a limestone tile on getting evaporated leaves behind streaks on its surface.
Cleaning the stains isn’t too difficult. All that you need is a heavy-duty cleaner for tiles. Prepare a mixture of the cleaner with water in the ratio of 1:4. Thoroughly blend the mixture and apply it on the floor, leaving it there for ten to fifteen minutes. Then clean the floor using fresh water.
Next, the floor should be cleaned scrupulously so that there is no hint of any cleaner and the surface is devoid of any stain. Finally, the surface should be buffed dry using a cotton pad to ensure it has no water on it. Following such a regimen ensures that your limestone tiles retain their shine and luster all the time.
It’s quite a tiring and difficult process that one can’t follow on a daily basis. So, one could do it once a week or at least twice a month. That’s the only way if you like to keep your floor with this natural stone looking good and fresh all the time.
